Dog with PVC pipe stuck around his neck rescued as Detroit community comes together to save his life

Earlier this week, social media posts had peaked with pleas to help a black and white mixed breed dog seen with a PVC pipe stuck around his neck running along the Detroit-Dearborn border. Rescue teams with the Michigan Humane were sent out to the location and spotted the dog in the area of the Carhartt retail establishment.

The rescuers had not been successful that day trying to capture the dog. To help find him, the organization posted photos of the dog showing him wearing a tight PVC collar around his neck. He had been last spotted walking near debris and snow piles along the side of the road.

SUCCESS!

The next step was to bring the two-year-old dog to the veterinarian hospital and have the pipe which was tightly pushing into his neck removed.

When brought into the shelter, officials with the group believe the pipe had intentionally been placed around the dog’s neck. A $2,500 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved in this suspected case of animal cruelty.

According to the rescue,

The PVC pipe may have been placed on the dog for any number of reasons — cruel discipline, kids being stupid, or in connection to dog fighting — but it would be ‘virtually impossible’ that the pipe got on the dog by accident.

On Thursday afternoon, the PVC pipe was successfully removed from his neck, and he is safe and receiving medical treatment. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Dearborn Police Department for partnering with the non profit to find him, and to the staff at Carhartt for helping to spread the word.

It is feared the dog’s plight could have been a part of a dogfighting operation since the dog has significant scarring on his face and his body indicative of having been in numerous fights. The dog appears very frightened, but he has not shown any signs of aggression. The dog’s future is still uncertain.
