For fourteen years, the walls of the Society for Animal Rescue & Adoption (SARA) in Seguin, Texas, have been the only home two inseparable canine companions have known. Erin and Anna, both believed to be around 15 years old, arrived at the shelter separately as puppies, but their shared journey has forged an unbreakable bond.
The two arrived at SARA as young dogs from San Antonio. Erin had been one of six puppies found in a park in the downtown area. Anna came with her two sisters, Anastasia and Alexandra, from a rescuer who had been undergoing cancer treatment and was overwhelmed and couldn’t keep them.
Both have outlived their families and ‘found each other’ about 3 months ago after Erin’s last brother died. Since then, they have been inseparable, spending their days together, eating, sleeping, and exploring their large yard they share with other geriatric dogs. They stay indoors when it’s too hot or cold, and despite their arthritis, they still manage to play with toys and love to sunbathe.

Despite their playful spirit and undeniable affection for each other, Erin and Anna have remained in the shelter, consistently overlooked by potential adopters. The reason? Their age. A common misconception paints senior dogs as less worthy of a loving home, but Erin and Anna defy this notion. They are brimming with love, loyalty, and offer a lifetime of companionship for the right family.
The shelter staff at SARA is committed to ensuring Erin and Anna find their forever home together. They emphasize the unique joy of adopting senior dogs. Senior dogs often come pre-trained, require less exercise, and shower their owners with unwavering devotion. And even though they are both shy when meeting new people, it is hoped the perfect new human will meet them and fall in love.
Erin and Anna’s story is a poignant reminder that age is just a number. These two souls yearn for a loving family to share their golden years with. With a little understanding and open hearts, someone out there can offer them the comfort and love they deserve, filling not only their lives but also their own with immeasurable joy.
