Social media continues to save the lives of thousands of dogs who otherwise would never have had the chance to share their heartbreaking stories and survive. In a video to TikTok account posted by @crittersandcrystals on December 18, Helga shared the story of Ollie, a German shepherd, who has been completely shut down since arriving at the Madeira Animal Shelter in California after he had been found as a stray.
…where shelter dogs are not promised tomorrow.
The two minute video highlights different times in Ollie’s life at the overcrowded shelter. He can be seen with drooping ears and blankly staring at the bars of his cage. When Helga walks in, Ollie briefly looks up at her, but sinks back down and stares at the wall.
At one time, Ollie had allowed Helga to pet him, even while he was eating. She was able to even carry him outside.
he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Somewhere beneath the neglected coat is a loyal companion. Please help me prevent the story from ending here.
This is the reality of a dog who knows they lost everything. This is Ollie. Ollie found himself at a overflowing shelter. How he got there remains a mystery. It’s unknown if his owners left him there, or if he was just another stray. One things for sure. Ollie feels it. At some point in this sweet boys life he was loyal. He ran with his head held high, and his tail wagging. Yet now he huddles on a cold concrete floor just trying to hide himself from the world. Ollie is shut down. More then any dog I’ve seen to date. When I walked by his kennel, I knew he was the next one I needed to help. He trembles at the slightest touch, and I had to carry him to the play yard. Note that even though I leashed him, picked him up from the corner he hid in, he never offered to harm me. After sitting with him in a yard for 15 minutes we started walking in snail mode. Every slow step he took he looked at me with worried eyes. After 25 minutes we where feeling more comfortable, even heeling by my side as we walked just a little faster. With every hole in the fence, you can see in his face he wanted to get away. Although who ever owned Ollie before wasn’t loyal to him. Ollie’s loyalty remained. Ollie has lost all hope. He’s just another shepherd who’s not going to make it out of the shelter because he’s not turn key. Ollie needs an experienced forever home who will love him as he is, or a rescue with experience getting shy dogs to come around. Ollie wants to love, but he needs that chance to. Ollie is a 4-5 year old German Shepherd mix. He is about 60 pounds currently but you can see every bone in his body. Ollie is scared, and needs time. Although I can confirm he has no mean bone in his body. Ollie is a loyal boy who is hiding confidence under a neglected coat. After all, he’s still loyal to those who left him behind, can you imagine how loyal he would be to his forever family? So what can you say my share heros. Can we make Ollie’s Christmas miracle come true? Tomorrow is never promised to a shelter dog. With your help, we can rewrite this boys future. Please take a second to hit share. No matter where you are, tag, comment, and most importantly share. Your share can spare his life. Ollie is located at the Madera Animal Shelter. His ID number is A0057330985. He is listed as a 4 year old German Shepherd mix. He is about 60 pounds but underweight. We DO NOT know how he is with cats. He is in need of a experienced adopter, or a 501c3 rescue organization. The shelter is located at: 205 Tozer St, Madera, CA 93638 The shelter hours are: Monday – Friday 10am to 4pm. Saturday from 10am to 2pm. #Rescue#dog#dogs#Dogsofttiktok#rescuedogsoftiktok#ShelterDog#Sad#Heartbrake#Help#Hero#Foster#adoptdontshop#crisis#Fresno#California#Clovis#Madera#SecondChance#abandoned#Hope#Raw#reality#Faith#sadness#AnimalShelter#germanshepherd#Angel#TeamOllie
The reality of a dog who knows they lost everything.
Ollie needed a patient and empathetic human to help him realize all is not lost and there surely is happiness ahead. Sadly no one came for Ollie, and had not Helga stepped up, Ollie’s would not have seen tomorrow.
And instead of sitting at the shelter for Christmas, Helga brought him home. He is now a part of the Paw Squad 559 where he will be vetted and offered for adoption.
Helga Weiss from Paw Squad 559 couldn’t let him die in the Madera Shelter, so she rescued him. Her story went viral …
There are many dogs dying in both Fresno and California shelters. Please don’t shop when you can adopt. Go to the website to donate for Ollie and all the dogs they rescue and you can adopt a dog. Ollie is waiting for his new best friends.
