Less than a week ago, in Polk County, Georgia, hearts broke as we watched the video of a mother dog and her four tiny puppies being surrendered to an overcrowded Polk County Animal Shelter. Maz’s owner tried to walk her three-year-old husky blend through the entrance way to the kennels. Maz knew that she and her family were in danger. She “immediately hit the brakes,” and who could blame her?

Maz had no idea who to trust or what to do to protect her puppies once her owner walked away and never looked back, and so Maz acted out of fear; she growled and snarled at anyone who came too close:

SADLY TODAY WENT EXACTLY AS I EXPECTED IT WOULD. SHE BARKED AND GROWLED AND WANTED TO SNAP AT EVERYONE.

THIS IS WHAT STRESS DOES TO SOME DOGS, ESPECIALLY A NEW MOMMA DOG AT ANIMAL CONTROL

Sadly, the dog’s fear factor promoted her to the top of the list for euthanasia, and her four tiny puppies, who would not be able to survive on their own, would have become collateral damage.

Still, amid all the slings and arrows headed towards this young mother dog and her puppies, Shannon Hicks Camp was not giving up. Tirelessly, she worked on finding help, and the good news was announced on Monday:

Please send funds for Maz & babies to [email protected] paypal! Our girl Maz is doing great she’s already relaxing and enjoying her new foster home. She has even given some arm licks!

And just look at her photos; already Maz is feeling better and more secure. Isn’t this just what we want for our shelter pals?

Many thanks to Shannon – you are a hero!
