Sweetest dog sat with cookie on his head and loved affection but is already on euth’ list

At the City of San Bernardino Animal Services, “Bear” is as cuddly as any teddy bear. He stayed perfectly still when asked to pose for his shelter portrait with a cookie on his head. And here he is – just one-year-old, and he is already on the euthanasia list at the shelter.

I am a male, fawn Pit Bull Terrier. Shelter staff think I am about 1 year old. I have been at the shelter since Jun 14, 2023.

If you are my owner, you must physically come to the shelter to claim me. We are located at 333 Chandler Place, San Bernardino, CA 92408. Our Lost & Found hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 am to 5 pm.

And this is what the shelter had to say about Bear:

On June 14 – Sat for cookie. let staff place cookie on his head and take multiple photos. Closes both eyes while petting head. super sweet.

on June 15 – abscess under neck, lateral luxating patellas, outward entropion bnp. ok’d neuter as well, declined entropion sx.

on june 16 -will need entropion surgery and future surgery on knees.

Ask for information about animal ID number A556351. Email the shelter to place a hold on the dog you wish to rescue. Include the dog’s ID#, name and number of your puller and the date you plan to pull.

    • We have been calling all rescues in the area, not one call back – spoke to shelter they said rescue only but why not a foster or adoption if we or they will help pay for medical??

  2. Poor guy to end up at San Bernardino where nearly ALL pit bulls end up rescue only and euthanized first. Doesn’t matter how nice and friendly they are. SB is a death sentence for pitties. I hope a rescue steps up and saves him.
