Super 16 year old senior chihuahua needs rescue today

On December 15, this five-pound senior chihuahua arrived at the Brooklyn location of New York City Animal Care Centers. This little male, estimated to be 16-years-old, was brought in as a stray. His name is Jingle, and he deserves better – he must be placed and out of the shelter today.

Subjective: QARH, no coughing/sneezing/vomiting/diarrhea. Appetite excellent
Observed behavior: Quiet, allows all handling.

Evidence of cruelty seen: Yes, untreated skin disease, overgrown nails, emaciated
Evidence of trauma seen: no
Evidence of neglect seen: Yes

Veterinarian assessment:

P: WNL
R: WNL
BCS: 3/9
OP: Mucous membranes pink and moist. CRT <2. Stage IV dental disease.
EENT: Severe mucoid discharge OU, mature cataracts. Ears and nares clear bilaterally, no discharge noted.
PLN: Small/soft/symmetrical/nonpainful
CV: No murmurs or arrhythmias, pulses strong and synchronous.
RESP: Eupneic, no crackles/wheezes
GI: Soft, nonpainful, no palpable masses.
UG: male intact, two descended testicles, no discharge
INT: rough hair coat, severe diffuse lichenification on ventrum and face. No ectoparasites or masses noted.
MS: Ambulatory x4, moderate diffuse muscle wasting. Severely overgrown nails x4
NEURO: Mentation quiet, cranial nerves intact, no deficits noted.
STT: Patient does not tolerate, suspect markedly decreased

Assessment:
-Suspect KCS
-Underweight
-Severe deep pyoderma
-Geriatric

Prognosis:
Fair to guarded

Jingles has been started on medication, however his physical condition puts him at high risk of pneumonia/complications in shelter. He allows all handling.
