Meet Lil Gus Gus. This barely two-year-old pup looks like an old man, but it surely must have been a life of suffering and misery along with an unknown heartless monster who shot him in the head somewhere down south.

Can you help him? the bullet went through his head but he’s going to live if we can get him help. he’s such a sweet boy. i know i ask you all the time, but you’re the only one that says yes time after time.

Facebook plea from Good Samaritan to Stray Rescue of St. Louis

And there he was; the team at Stray Rescue of St. Louis was ready to meet Lil Gus Gus. The dog was malnourished, covered in fleas, had infected skin, and his teeth had been filed down. He had probably been living a nightmare and had been unable to escape the pain.

When Gus arrived at the rescue, he was able to walk on his own. It appeared the small caliber bullet had entered and exited through the skin on his head.

…It is often the sweetest, most trusting dogs that get shot because they are the ones that will walk right up to anyone.

This dog.

And his teef.

And the way they get stuck on his lip.

…We are smitten.

On Friday, Lil Gus Gus was sedated in order to perform a thorough examination and to clean his wound. The x-ray showed a bullet fragment, but the veterinarian did not see any fracture. His other issues include sarcoptic mange, he is malnourished, and his teeth are flat. Fortunately, the bullet did not penetrate his skull, and even though a fragment is lodged in his head, it should not present any further issues.

The pup’s wound is infected, but because it is only days old and wasn’t left to fester, antibiotics should be able to get the infection under control. Somewhere, somehow, this dog has someone special watching over him because his condition is stable, and he’s very much in love with everyone he meets.
