On Wednesday afternoon, August 9, TikTok user Bellah Hambleton(@bellahhammy) shared a clip of her and her family learning that their beloved family dog Lex needed an expensive surgery to repair a ruptured disc in the puppy’s lower spine. The young dog could hardly move or stand because of the pain and the inability to move her back legs. The only option was surgery, but the family didn’t have the $6,000 estimated cost for the operation, and the only other option would be to put their dog to sleep.

“If $6,000 doesn’t fall from the sky in two days, I have to put my best friend down idk what to do. She has a ruptured disc in her lower spine and the only option is surgery which my family doesn’t have the money for and i refuse to just let her go when surgery could save her. i hate being poor.”

Perhaps it was the brutal honesty and sincerity of the young girl that affected those who followed her on TikTok, but the video quickly went viral. By the next day a GoFundMe account Bellah had started, grew with donations to help save her dog’s life. Extra money surpassing $14,000 was raised after Bellah posted that the dog needed an MRI as part of the pre-op preparations.

If i could hug every one of you i would thank you!

Bellah adamantly defended her intentions to help her dog, despite some accusations this had been a scam. She has since posted more videos of her dog’s recovery at the veterinarian hospital and has assured followers that whatever money is left over, she would donate the funds.

Bellah continues to share updates about Alexa’s progress, including images of paperwork estimating charges for the procedure, which she said have been from a veterinary emergency hospital, and videos and images of herself and her younger brother with the dog taken inside the hospital after her operation.
