It was just a few days ago when Stray Rescue of St. Louis,  received a plea for rescue after a heartbreaking photo of a dog in desperate need broke hearts. It had been a Good Samaritan who made the call to the non profit organization hoping someone could help.

No one knew how long the dog dubbed Jesse, by her rescuers had been living on the streets and scavenging for food; barely staying alive. Life had been just so hard. Fortunately, Jessie was soon on her way for much needed life-saving veterinary intervention.

Jesse was so badly injured she had to be carried into the veterinarian hospital. Staff and volunteers could smell the infection in the car, and her wounds were not fresh. She was extremely swollen; her eye was very infected, her head had a deep wound and her tongue hung out of her mouth.

After a thorough physical evaluation, her veterinarians did say she is most likely going to need multiple surgeries; one to remove her eye and one to remove many of her teeth. The orbital break goes from the eye down to the top jaw bone, so she’ll most likely need orthopedic consultation, but that bridge will be crossed later on in Jesse’s recovery. She’s still too swollen, and her white and red blood cell counts are still not where they should be, but she’s made big improvements today. Her doctors are very happy with the improvements they are seeing so far. Let the healing journey begin!

And of course her up-to-date improvement:

First, check out her video; feel free to do an ear to ear smile. Watch all the way to the end to see how much she has improved, and her adorable interest in a stuffed toy:

We got to visit Jessie today! We were thrilled to see her strong enough to walk in! Oh my gosh, this is the sweetest little girl. She’s tiny, just over 20 pounds and not even a year old. Her swelling has gone down significantly, and just wait and see what happens when we offer her a stuffed baby to cuddle with.

We can’t wait until she can come home to us, but until then she is being treated like gold! All of her doctors and nurses are wrapped around her little paw! Thank you for giving so she could stay in the 24 hour clinic for as long as she needs to.
