Once upon a time, Sammie and her puppy brother, Sarge, had a home in a rural Texas community. The two lived together with the family they thought they would grow old with, only to be abandoned when their owners brought a new puppy into the home. Sammie and Sarge were kicked out – the dogs roamed the neighborhood looking for food, and their owners denied the two dogs belonged to them.

Sammie and Sarge had been inseparable, and for months the two ran loose since no one seemed to care about them anymore. Then the awful day for Sammie came – she witnessed a cold-hearted human shoot Sarge in the head killing him instantly. Sammie was on her own, and now the traumatized young dog was left to fend for herself.

And Sammie tried so hard to recapture her life. She returned to her home and ran to the spot where the children in that family she once knew, caught the school bus. She walked with the kids back to the house, but no one would allow her in. She sat in the front yard even though no one offered her any protection against the terrible weather.

No Sarge to curl up next to anymore, longing to be invited in. We knew any day that Sammie would be hit by a car, as many dogs in that area are, so we did the only thing we could to spare her life and took her off the streets.

Nobody would offer to foster while she was in Texas and we had no choice but to put her in a boarding facility. Months on end sitting in a cage, with zero interest in this beautiful, sweet and deserving girl. We chose to bring Sammie up to our shelter in NY the minute we had a foster for her to go to.

And now Sammie is ready to find her forever family. Please share her story with friends, family and social media contacts. This pup is utterly amazing. She used to share plates of food with the neighborhood cats and has always been friendly with the other dogs in the area.

Check out her photos. Someone will fall in love with her; she just needs her story shared.
