At the Anti-Cruelty Shelter in Chicago, a one-month-old puppy was surrendered just two days after Christmas. Sadly, let’s face it, the puppy named Winnie was an “unwanted Christmas gift.”

In a heartbreaking clip on TikTok by @KhanTheeDane posted a woman holding Winnie:

Her caption cautions people not to give a puppy as a Christmas present without telling the family. Who is to say any family is geared to care for a new puppy or if they have any idea how much work and financial costs a puppy really can be? Winnie was only one month old … And then there is always the time needed to care for a dog – whether a puppy or even a senior. Dogs aren’t Christmas decorations or stuffed toys.

Please be responsible. Don’t give out pets as gifts to someone who didn’t ask for one or done research on how to care for it. This bean ended up on the shelter at 1mo💔🥹#christmaspuppy #shopresponsibly #dc #dogcommunity #shelterdog #adoptme

…She has to go to foster first, too young to adopt out.

According to Newsweek, Rachel Klousnitzer, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications at the Anti-Cruelty Shelter, Winnie is too young to be placed up for adoption. Rachel emphasizes that animals should not be given as gifts without the person’s knowledge and hence willingness to accept a lifelong commitment.

Winnie was not adopted from the Anti-Cruelty Shelter, but was brought there to help her find a home where she will be loved and wanted for a lifetime.

What could be sadder than seeing puppies, kittens and bunnies being brought to a shelter just days and weeks after Christmas?

The video has garnered more than 1.6 million views since being posted on Thursday.

  1. NO EXCUSE FOR WHAT THE LUNATIC DID!

I HAVE SOME GREAT IDEAS FOR A GIFT FOR THE SUBHUMAN … BUT MY POST WOULD BE CENSORED … “IT” WOULDNT WANT THIS GIFT, BUT I WOULD CERTAINLY LOVE TO LET “IT” HAVE IT …

WE CAN DONATE AND/OR SPONSOR THIS BABY’S CARE UNTIL SHE HAS A LOVING HOME WITH SOMEONE SANE WHO HAS A HEART!
