At the Niagara SPCA, we have a story for you guaranteed to make you smile and of course remind all of us how angels really do exist. According to volunteers, on Saturday afternoon, an older gentleman arrived at the non profit animal rescue organization ready to adopt a dog, but just not a puppy or one of furry, adorable younger pooches.

This man was heaven sent!

Niagara SPCA

Richard arrived at the shelter to meet a senior pup in need. You see – Richard specializes in the old, the infirm and the broken, and Nigel fit the bill. Back in 2016, Nigel had been adopted from the Niagara SPCA, but two weeks ago, he showed up as a stray and his family never came for him. Yes, now Nigel is a lot older, he’s a lot slower and suffers from some arthritis, but Richard welcomed him into his family with arms outstretched.

Today, Nigel found his new family and this will be “furever.” And so it happens that Nigel met his two new canine siblings and couldn’t be happier.

Happy life Nigel – many thanks to Richard for welcoming you home.

  1. Fantastic news??? I am very happy for Nigel and his puppy brothers!!! Richard is a terrific adopter??? We wish everyone a long, happy and healthy life together!!!

We have a soft spot for seniors, especially Chihuahuas!!! All of our pets are “2nd hand”??? right now 3/4 of our furbabies are seniors and we love them all!!! Greying muzzles do not scare us away: like Richard, we look for elderly dogs who need a family…….
