Innocence of a dog and his stuffed toy as he faces death row in hours

The reality of the happy pooch named Hank is he faces euthanasia at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in New York City. His favorite past time is lying in the playground at the Brooklyn Care Center for New York Animal Care and watching everything that is happening around him. Hank loves carrying around his stuffed toy. Could life be anymore innocent? Everyone who has interacted with Hank sings his praises:

Volunteer says Rachel Bennett: “I have spent time with Hank and he has the grumpy dog look down pat. But he’s really such a sweet, happy boy who loves treats and attention. He seems very house trained and according to his notes does better with female dogs or should be the only dog in the home.”

Another volunteer writes: “He loves back scratches, and being spoken to and responds happily to the smallest attentions. Hank seems house trained and knows the commands “sit” and “give paw” and will eagerly do both for a treat. Hank is such a character it’s hard not to fall in love with him.”

A Facebook page for this sweet dog can be followed here. “My name is HANK. My Animal ID # is A1106247. Brooklyn Center, NY. I am a neutered male black and white pit bull, 12 months old, Weight 53, weight Average.” Please share Hank’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Dogs listed on “death row” only have a few hours to be rescued. An additional Facebook page can be followed here which includes his complete evaluation.

Publicly adoptable dogs can be reserved via http://www.nycacc.org/PublicAtRisk.htm if you can get to the NYC ACC “in person” within 48 hours to complete the adoption process and bring home your dog. More information can be found at the link. Shelter contact information:

I am very familiar w/Brooklyn Animal CARE Center where there is no care involved w/Risa Weinstock at the helm – this miserable excuse for a human kills animals daily regardless of health, temperament and since Hank looks like a pit bull she will make sure he is killed ASAP.

Please, if you know its like that, please contact the governors office and complaint. Im always asking people to do that. I have many times, and got a call back, but they told me that its always only me complaining. If everybody would do the same, I know we will get results. We can help turn this heartless horrible shelters into no kill shelters.

No kill shelters are not really the answer. Dogs living out years in them are not enriched, they are stressed, bored, some severly frightened. That is not a quality life for any companion animal or human. The answer is more funding, collaborating with more rescues & other shelters, & more public education and continuing education & training for all staff, plus a healthy & progressive volunteer program. To start with.

This is addressed to Sandra Garcia, since there’s no reply button at the bottom of her comment.
There is such a thing as low kill shelters-and if you want an example of such a shelter that runs beautifully, with an almost 100% adoption rate, look at San Diego County.

That is great. I can stop crying now. Too many of these cases people need to stop breading and rescue more. And when you get a dog it is for life. I have my two and they are far from good dogs but they are mine no matter what. Its like kids you don’t just throw away one cause it is a bad seed. Glad he is Safe. And thanks to whoever came and saved him.

Here is the reality! He is a very handsome boy who loves to be happy! This is a common refrain! Yet so many of them die for lack of someone willing to love them back! Each has a story! Each has an amazing personality! Each has eyes that shine with love and a question, will you please take me home with you and love me? Then it’s time thru no fault of your own angel your time here has come to an end! Peace angel you can run free and play! The sun shines on you plenty of food to eat plenty of cool clear water to drink! Good nite angel I’m so sorry no one came!

In response to Ellen cottone: self hate me? Lmao sweetness I love being me! I love everything about my life! You have no idea what an idiotic statement that is! But it’s also a telling statement because it’s you who is filled with self loathing! No surprise really when ones life is as yours is it makes sense! Tell me how many of the deadly vices do you suffer from we already have envy! You wish you had a life! But then one would have to be educated first! After that all else falls into place as long as you put in the work! But yea I would start doing something about having some of the deadly sins!

That is great.Really wish some of these kill shelters could team up with some of our local shelters ln the country. Seems like alot of these dogs would have a better chance at some small county shelters. My local shelter has 3 dogs our city pound only has maybe ten or so dogs. Seems like some over looked bigger breads maybe some of the pit bulls would be much more adoptable from these places. Wish they could all be saved just stinks that we as humans caused this problem. seems so preventable.

I don’t understand how they can call themselves “shelters”. It’s more like a line waiting for death row. The people who do this for a job need other jobs……like pulling the lever in a prison when someone is being killed….or, digging graves.. I don’t believe they care really……I mean I get it….people need jobs. But, I’d rather shovel shit than KILL DOGS. I volunteered at my local shelter years ago..they are a no kill..(99%) shelter. I had to stop doing it,because a GIANT, chocolate lab pulled me down, hurt my ankle…I never saw anything I didn’t want to see….but, I don’t think a lot of PTS went on there. By the way, the 2 most turned in by owner dogs? Labs and Chihuahuas!! Labs definitely #1. Cute pups but not so good at staying in the house 24-7!!

Hank a safe!!! His name is now Sixx & he is the most spoiled pup already. He’s a great dog, listens to commands well just doesn’t like male dogs or horseplay. He’s very skinny right now but we got him enough food, pup vitamins and treats to fatten him up a little bit. I wish I could post pictures of this adorable furbaby
