In White County, Georgia, authorities are asking for the public’s help finding the disturbed culprit responsible for zip tying four newborn kittens to the back leg of a mother cat and then leaving them in a remote area  to die. Angels Among Us cat

One week ago, the mother cat and her four kittens were discovered in a tangled Kudzu vine. As Animal Control brushed away the vines,  came the shocking discovery of the kittens tied to their mother’s rear right leg. No one knows how long the family had been out there; temperatures exceeded 90 degrees, no food or water.  The mother cat tried desperately to lick the zip ties away so her babies, whose eyes had not even opened, could nurse from their mother.  Tragically by the time they were found, according to the rescue group, Angels Among Us, one kitten had already died, and the remaining three tiny lives  perished within the next 24 hours. Angels Among Us cat 4

Barely responsive when saved, Aura was rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital where she received round the clock care. An update on Angels Among Us Facebook echoed the cat’s sadness:

“I met her a little while ago & she’s the definition of heartbreaking. This one got me. I practically crawled into her cage at the vet trying to reassure her that it was OK and we loved her. She’s tiny & sad and pitiful and scared of what people might do to her next. I can’t imagine what kind of evil person could do what they did to her. Thank goodness she made it to us because things can only get better from here.” Angels Among Us Update cat

On Monday Aura was spayed and has been transferred to a foster home until she recovers. Sometimes the “deepest wounds are the ones we can’t see.” Aura is described as very sweet and hardly more than a baby herself.

Severely injured and desperately in need of medical help, an extraordinarily clever dog climbed to the top of a steep mountain sensing he could find help after having been attacked by another dog, writes Eldad Hagar, founder of Hope for Paws, a Los Angeles based rescue organization. Hank HFP

This time, however Hagar, had been in Costa Rica and had been working with Scott Bradley, founder of the Costa Rica Dog Rescue when one evening Hagar and Bradley spotted the older dog who had been attracted to the rescue by the barking at the sanctuary. It’s no secret how perceptive dogs are as to friends or foes. Hank wounded

Dubbed Hank, the men carefully comforted the dog that night until he could be transported to an emergency veterinarian clinic in the morning. Hank suffered from bites and injuries to his face and neck and was admitted for a few days while the staff attended to his wounds and the infection which  had set in as the dog searched for help. When he was strong enough to travel, Hank flew to Los Angeles where he is now in the care of Grand Paws Senior Sanctuary. He is heartworm positive and is currently being treated. When he  recovers, this friendly pooch, who holds no grudges against humans and dogs alike, will be ready for his forever home. Interested in meeting Hank? Contact the rescue by clicking here. A puppy left suffering in the heat in Paterson, New Jersey, was so emaciated that his pitiful condition caught the attention of his owner’s neighbors. According to Wednesday’s ABC 7 News, animal control who responded to the animal welfare check discovered a pup who was so weak that he collapsed from the exertion of greeting a visitor.

The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge share details of the rescue effort on a fundraiser created for the puppy, “A skeleton of a puppy wagged his emaciated body as they approached. He then collapsed from the exertion and excitement of greeting a visitor, having been alone for days. The officer took him off his chain and brought him into the home, where he staggered over to the toilet and drank all the water out of it before she could stop him.”

The shelter added:

The owners admitted that he hadn’t eaten in days. RBARI rescuers raced to meet animal control and get the puppy immediate medical care. The puppy’s tail never stopped wagging – he was so excited to finally have human contact and kind touch. The rescuers took him into their arms in a big fluffy towel because he was so frail.

The frail pup, suffering from skin infections resulting from being kept in urine and feces, was taken to the Oradell Animal Hospital for antibiotics and I.V. fluids – despite his pitiful condition, rescuers noted that his little tail never stopped wagging.

A Georgia-based rescue agency is hoping to save a severely injured dog who was discovered on a dirt road with one leg torn off. According to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, the dog, whom they have dubbed “Bravery,” appears to have lost his leg after it was caught in a trap.

The rescue agency wrote, “We’ve heard he was caught in a bush but it sure looks like it was caught in a trap. Someone tried to bandage what was left of his leg but they didn’t take him to a vet. He was found on a dirt road. And animal control is begging us for help.”

The photo of Bravery’s injury is disturbing – the flesh is torn and bone is exposed. Though the image is difficult to view, the rescue group has begged its followers to not look away – On Wednesday they wrote, “This is going to upset you and the photo is graphic. But please please we need you!! Don’t look away. For this poor poor dog’s sake, please don’t look away.”

The group has asked that donations to help with Bravery’s care be sent in one of the following ways:

At a filthy and garbage strewn home near Lake Mathews in LaSierra, California, more than 30 malnourished dogs were found on Wednesday, reports the Press Enterprise. riverside abandoned dogs

“The place is a mess,” stated John Welsh for the Department of Animal Services about a multi-acre property where about six bodies of dead dogs had been discovered near Greentree Drive, less than a mile north of the lake. riverside abandoned dogs 2

Some of the dogs had died in the house. Many of the dogs were found in the urine and feces-filled home. Old cars, engines, aquariums and other debris were strewn through out the property.  Welsh called the situation a clear case of animal neglect, however the owner of the dogs was nowhere to be found. riverside abandoned dogs 3

All of the dogs acted friendly and seemed grateful towards their rescuers. According to AbcNews, Riverside County Department of Animal Services officials will be caring for the dogs. It is believed the owner of the dogs may have been breeding them in the past. This is a developing story, and more details will be provided. riverside abandoned dogs 4

Abandoned baby orangutan rescued after shot and left for dead

In West Borneo, a baby orangutan had been shot in the shoulder, wounded and left to languish in agony in a local shop. Didik

According to the International Animal Rescue, located in Southeast Asia, the baby dubbed Didik, had been abandoned in a store after his new owner discovered it is illegal to keep an orangutan as a pet and didn’t seek medical help. Authorities stated the baby had been wounded as hunters and captors killed his mother to steal her baby to sell for a profit. When the Department of Forestry discovered the ape, they immediately contacted the rescue organization.

Dr Karmele Llano Sanchez, vet and program director for IAR Indonesia, explained Didik had been deeply traumatized by what had happened to him. Sanchez described the look of pain and sadness in Didik’s eyes. Didik 2

“For an animal like an orangutan, witnessing the death of its mother is a profoundly shocking experience. That is undoubtedly why Didik looks so sad and depressed,” Sanchez explains. “It will take a long time for him to recover from the nightmare he has been through and start to take an interest in his surroundings.”

Estimated to be about 18-months old, Didik suffers from severe malnutrition – his growth has been severely stunted. Unable to even know how to eat, Didik struggled just to open his mouth. He had to be fed using a syringe as the vet staff  prepared baby porridge with a banana for him to eat.

“Our team is doing everything possible to help him survive but he is clearly deeply traumatized by what he has been through. It will take months, even years, for him to recover. Tragically, we can’t replace a mother’s love –”Didik 3

Didik’s latest updates are showing a gradual improvement, and in a Facebook post by the rescue on Monday, the little ape is now eating on his own, trying new foods and beginning to pull himself up and becoming more active.

A five-year-old collie destined to be euthanized last week in an Alabama county shelter has officially arrived at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.  Lucky euthanized headed 2Now being bathed and medically treated for a moderate case of demodetic mange, the pup appropriately named Lucky, will soon be ready for adoption.

In an overcrowded shelter, where no one came to adopt him, the friendly dog’s only crime was having a mild case of mange and a heartless owner who had abandoned him. As the sweet dog was led quietly into the euthanasia room, Lucky sensed something terrible was about to happen, and as he was lifted up and placed on the table to be prepared for the fatal shot of a concentrated solution of poison into his arm, he would not hold still. Dog saved from euthanasiaHe wiggled, he struggled, and he jumped off the table to his freedom – hiding behind the shelf desperate to escape. Ironically he hid behind the drugs and syringes used to euthanize the dogs. dog saved from euthanasia 2

The shelter staff was so emotionally moved by Lucky’s ardent efforts to survive, they reached out to partner rescue organizations asking for help. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC  volunteered, and one week later, Lucky is safe and sound in the Big Apple.

Now looking for his “forever” home, Lucky is reported to be great with children and other dogs. Lucky euthanized headed 3He has not been cat tested. Interested in adopting a great dog with an amazing story? Click here for adoption information.

A family’s dog was fatally shot by a police officer who arrived during a child’s birthday party in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, reported Tuesday’s Fox 25 News. The police officer, whose name has not been disclosed, arrived to the home of Vickie Malone, who was throwing a party for her five-year-old son.

Malone, and children attending the party, had just gone inside to enjoy cake and ice cream when they heard shots ring out from their yard – the adults rushed outside and found three-year-old “Opie,” shot and gasping for air on the ground near the gate of the fence surrounding the family’s yard. The officer shot the dying dog two more times in front of children who were watching the disturbing scene through a window of the house.

The officer told Malone that he had been investigating a ten-year-old case and had arrived to the house with a warrant…a warrant for someone that Malone had never heard of. The officer claimed that Opie had charged him in explanation for the fatal shot.Screenshot (766)

Chief Ken Moore, with the Wynnewood Police Department, has defended the officer’s presence at the house, telling Fox 25 News that the officer, had the right to be there and that he “had to start somewhere.”

The family is grieving the loss of their pet and son, “Eli,” is mourning the death of his best 4-legged friend. The family has claimed that no one from the department has offered an apology for Opie’s death.

11-year-old girl raises $250 in birthday funds for neglected puppy mill victim Libre

In Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, 11-year-old Liberty Miller declined all birthday presents and instead asked for the cash value; just so she could donate to the recovery expenses of a tiny puppy mill Boston terrier survivor named Libre, reports WjlaNews. Liberty Miller

And when Liberty brought the $250 to the Dillsburg Veterinary Center, veterinarian Dr. Ivan Pryor was overwhelmed and extremely impressed:

“I didn’t know Liberty before this, but I’m just really proud of her,” Dr. Pryor stated.

Liberty did get to meet Libre and softly cuddled him in her arms.

“I feel happy. Very, very, very happy. He needed a lot of help and I knew it would help him a lot,” Liberty said. Libre update 2

Rescued on July 4th by Speranza Animal Rescue, a  good Samaritan brought the pup to an emergency veterinarian where the rescue organization’s founder, Janine Guido rushed to help. The puppy was in and out of consciousness, barely breathing, and according to the vet was one of the worst cases of neglect and abuse she had ever seen.Libre the puppy

The Lancaster County SPCA’s director Susan Martin stated it could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the breeder neglected care or  intentionally set out to harm the pup born on the farm; therefore no charges of animal neglect or cruelty have been filed. Angry advocates have  asked for Martin’s resignation.

According to a statement sent to the Pet Rescue Report from Kristen Tullo, Pennsylvania state director for The Humane Society of the United States, the following helps to explain the tragic situation:

“The case of Libre is one of many in a string of high profile cases that highlights the urgent need for the Pennsylvania legislature to take animal cruelty seriously by passing tougher laws. While we are not a law enforcement agency, and as such we do not have jurisdiction over cases like this, we are working with community groups to turn this tragedy into positive action. We can do this by improving legislation to crack down on puppy mills so this doesn’t happen to dogs in the future.

There are two specific bills pending in our legislature that would help puppies like Libre. One is SB 22, the “Puppy Lemon Law,” which would grant consumer protection to people who purchase a sick puppy. It would hold all breeders accountable, not just those with kennel licenses, for selling sick puppies. The second is HB 492, which would require more information to be shown regarding dogs in pet shops.

We need to hold pet breeders responsible for their actions. The Humane Society of the United States urges everyone who cares about the fate of Libre to contact their state legislators asking for their help to strengthen Pennsylvania’s cruelty laws.”

Donations to Libre’s medical account can be made by calling the Dillsburg Veterinary Center’s office at 717-432-7031. What a young hero Liberty is for those who cannot speak.

A young pit bull puppy, fondly referred to as a “pitopotamus” was recently discovered with horribly maimed ears – ears which were presumably chopped off with scissors. According to Monday’s 12 News, the seven-week-old puppy was taken to Arizona’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control on July 7 and promptly sent to a foster home to spend time recovering.

Despite the crude cropping attempt, the tiny pup appears to be in otherwise good health – followers of the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control Facebook page are enamored by the cute pup and have been enjoying video clips posted to the shelter’s Facebook page.

The pup, dubbed “Pistol,” has garnered a lot of adoption interest. On Tuesday, the shelter addressed those who are interested in providing him with a new home:

As you can imagine, Pistol the Pitopatomus has generated a lot of interest from folks wanting to adopt. He’s currently in foster care and will most likely remain there for a couple more weeks.
In the meantime, if you or someone you know wants to adopt this adorable seven-week-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix, please send us a brief email explaining why YOU are the best family for Pistol. We will review the write-ups with Pistol’s foster mom to determine who is a good fit.
