Stray Rescue of St. Louis had not expected to be ringing in the New Year with more gun violence. Early New Year’s Day morning, officers were called to a scene where a dog was found to have been shot at least two times.

Officer Ottengheime and Officer Stevens rushed the dog to the rescue, carefully carried him in and quickly fell in love. The dog was named Wallace. There he was – shot twice and still standing. No doubt Wallace survived against all odds; he had no broken bones. His worst injury from the bullets had been a broken tooth. Surgery would follow for an extraction.

And now – just a few days after Wallace’s rescue and miraculous recovery, the two officers who saved him, Officer Ottengheime and Officer Stevens returned to Stray Rescue of St. Louis to find out how the dog was doing.
Check out the video:
Hearts absolutely exploded! Wallace gave each of the officers lots of grateful kisses and no doubt thanked them profusely for saving his life and bringing him to Stray Rescue.

We’re so grateful to have the support of officers like them, who are on the streets, looking out for the animals, and making a difference every day. Compassion and dedication like theirs will turn the tides of animal cruelty in our community. Thank you to all who are sharing this story far and wide and for valuing the lives of animals, just like Wallace.
Good boy Wallace. Get well soon and find the best loving home.
An investigation continues.
