Dogs are inherently social pack animals who so often have demonstrated their loyalties with other dogs – many times protecting one another.
At Lifeline’s Community Animal Center in Atlanta, Georgia, one white shepherd had been abandoned and left tied to a pole while her bonded sister who had been left unleashed and free to run, didn’t move an inch.

Since the dogs entered the shelter in April 2023, the only constant in their lives has been each other. It’s as if they lean on each other to survive, but it’s starting to not be enough. In 2024 they were briefly adopted but returned.

Shelter volunteers have noted both dogs, My’lena and Makarlee are scared and stressed. The sisters are at their best when they can take walks together.
“These are the sweetest girls and walked so well together on the leash. I had no problems walking them by myself. Completely different dogs once we got them out of the shelter and into the car. They behaved so well in the car and were just wanting be next to each other even looking out the same window. Today, even at the most scared & stressed state, My’lena followed Makarlee’s lead. The sisters walked so well together during our hike in such harmony.”

Here they are. They have great manners. They are about six years of age, housetrained and get along well with other dogs.

They have spent 768 days in the shelter. “Two is better than one” is how the saying goes and that’s true of Makarlee and My’Lena. This dynamic duo is a bonded pair, possibly sisters.
Please keep sharing to find them a home.. that’s all they need… they deserve a life full of love!
They are currently housed at Lifeline’s Community Animal Center & available for adoption/foster.
