In Sandusky, Ohio, a 22-year-old woman from Parma was arrested last week at Cedar Point after allegedly leaving her six-month-old German shepherd puppy in an SUV for hours while outside temperatures had soared into the 80s.

According to the police report the Honda SUV “did have the passenger side window rolled down about 1.5 inches” but “they could feel the heat emanating through the slightly open window.” The dog was found curled up along the rear passenger-side floorboard. he was seen excessively panting. There was no water in sight.
Officers had contacted the Cedar Point maintenance crew for help gaining access to the vehicle, removed the dog and gave him water.

Once freed from the vehicle, the puppy was warm to the touch.
…While removing the dog, it continued to pant heavily and was extremely warm to the touch. Cedar Point Security was able to take the dog to the park’s provided dog daycare. A note was left on the vehicle requesting the owner contact security to retrieve the dog. Officers then re-secured the vehicle and returned to service.
The area cameras were reviewed in order to determine the time the vehicle had arrived. While walking through the park, police stopped a woman who matched the suspect’s description, and she admitted to having left her dog in the vehicle.

The woman was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty “for leaving the dog unattended for over three hours in a locked, non-running vehicle with no access to water provided.”
