For 11 long days, a dog just rescued from an overcrowded local shelter had been missing. He had been saved from humane euthanasia by another rescue organization, but on his way to his new foster home, he panicked and fled from the transporter.

The dog, dubbed Enzo was unfamiliar with the area of Torrance and just ran around sniffing and scavenging to find food or someone familiar.

At first there had been sightings of Enzo; brief glimpses of hope, and then for five days – nothing.

A message asking for help alerted Suzette Hall, founder of the nonprofit animal rescue, Logan’s Legacy 29. Suzette and one of her volunteers had refused to give up their search. What they didn’t know at the time was that Enzo had been hiding in residential backyards along the huge hills in the area where no one could see him.

The entire neighborhood had been searching non-stop. Coyotes lurked nearby; their mating season now in full swing, making them much more aggressive and eager to find easy prey. Anytime there was even the slightest sighting, the dog would flee and seemingly disappear.

And then came the break. The rescue’s volunteer, Peggy trusted her instincts and went searching behind a row of homes, and there he was! Enzo was fast asleep at the very top of a long set of steps on a steep hill. He was exhausted.
The women quietly set the trap and went to hide awaiting Enzo’s capture.

I know he was so hungry. We watched as he slowly made his way down those steps, following the smell of food… not knowing that this was the moment everything was about to change.
Within 15 minutes… sweet Enzo was safe. He was finally safe in the trap, safe off the hills, safe from the coyotes and safe from running.

And last night, he slept soundly, at his foster’s home, exactly where he was always meant to be.
