On Tuesday morning, Woodway Public Safety Department officers were dispatched to a call involving a small dog that had fallen into a hole and was unable to climb out because a large rock blocked the exit.

When officers arrived, alongside the rescue team and Animal Control Officer Winget, they discovered the dog had become trapped in a tunnel created by an armadillo.
Officers utilized rescue equipment to safely stabilize the rock, as well as the surrounding hole and tunnel, before working to gain access.

Once the opening was secure, officers were able to safely reach and rescue the dog. The dog was reunited with its owner and was uninjured.
The department shared the video of the rescue on social media, showing officers lifting the rock with boards and bracing the tunnel to prevent it from collapsing further.
If you have the time, take a moment this week to show appreciation to an Animal Control Officer. Many thanks to the heroes:

This is a reflection of Woodway officers’ teamwork and training to achieve a safe and successful outcome.
