On Monday, June 22, the Cape Coral Fire Department arrived to rescue a dog in a canal in Britannia Lake, but that “dog” turned out to be a young coyote in need of help.
Two units from the fire department responded, and when the firemen arrived and tried to rescue the “dog,” the animal quickly swam to the other side of the canal.
According to the Cape Coral Fire Department’s Facebook page, Good Samaritan Denae Judd had been kayaking in the canal and offered to help firefighters by monitoring the location of the animal. When she saw the animal hide underneath the dock, firemen were there to rescue it.

Firefighters entered the water and were able to extract what turned out to be a coyote pup from the space. It was exhausted from its ventures and unable to be released.
One firefighter was able to remove the coyote from under the dock safely and held the scared pup in his arms before returning him to the land.

After the rescue, the pup was checked out at the East West Veterinary Care Center and later transferred to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife Inc. (CROW)
