Lying on an old discarded mattress not far from her owner’s home in Galveston’s Texas City, Texas, a barely recognizable Siberian husky had been ignored by the only family she had ever known. Her skin was raw and covered in painful scabs from the top of her head to the tip of her tail. Huge patches of fur were missing, and she was painfully thin.

This is how Torvi lived:
It had been at the beginning of March 2026 when the dog named Torvi would be treated with any kindness or respect. There had been numerous reports about her condition, and when a rescuer stepped in to help, the dog’s owner initially refused to surrender her, stating they might want to breed her in the future. They accused the kind Good Samaritan of only wanting to take Torvi because the dog was a husky.

Sadly, it was barely discernible what breed Torvi was in the condition she had been found.
That same afternoon, Torvi was surrendered and rushed to a nearby emergency veterinarian. Her body was losing the battle to survive. Sandy Paws Rescue stepped up to help Torvi and provide her with the medical care she needed. The staff and volunteers stated this had been the worst case of neglect and cruelty they had ever seen.
Dogs forced to live outdoors all their lives often battle more than can be seen. There were always possibilities of tick-borne diseases or heartworms. After a lifetime of neglect and living outside, the odds of serious diseases affecting her were well within the possibilities.
Check out her journey:
Torvi received a blood transfusion and was administered fluids, medication and intensive care for her skin in order to counteract the severe infections and mange she had been battling for an extended period of time.

Her body slowly began to recover.
For the first time in a long time, Torvi finally felt relief from her constant pain and itching. And although she has a long road ahead of her, she was no longer in the fight to survive alone.

And now a few weeks of excellent care and lots of love and affection, Torvi’s health has improved. The thick and painful crusty skin has disappeared. She continues to receive multiple medicated baths. Her body continues to heal, and her coat will slowly grow back. She needs to regain her strength, and the difference is already amazing.
After everything she’s been through, she still leans into the hands helping her.
So many times just like Torvi’s journey, we ask if humans really deserve dogs? Many thanks to all the rescuers who keep us positive.
