At the San Bernardino Airport, security personnel contacted Faith Easdale, Dream Fetchers Rescue, about another heartbreaking situation late last week. A scared dog had been spotted crossing busy roads, and it was feared she could be hit and killed by a vehicle at any time.

Rescuers rushed out while security helped to block the area where the dog had been crossing the highway.

Faith and her rescue partner were able to trap the young dog and bring her to safety. Her condition brought everyone to tears. The groomer had never seen so many ticks in her entire life, and felt the dog, dubbed Amelia (Earhart), needed more help than she could provide. Amelia was immediately transferred to the rescue group’s partner veterinarian hospital where it was suspected the dog was pregnant and had been showing signs of producing milk.

One can only imagine the emotions welling up inside of Faith as the dog showed her gratitude when finally brought to safety…
…she literally put her paw in my hand when she walked out of the trap. her future is beautiful. She will never be unwanted…
It took hours, but Faith was a woman on a mission to help, knowing Amelia would not be able to have healthy puppies while covered in ticks literally sucking the blood out of her. She has mostly been shaved, but is extremely undernourished. She could not remain at the hospital because of the risk of tick infestation.

She already has milk.
But the x-rays showed that the babies were not seemingly ready yet, but that could also be from poor nutrition
She is probably anemic; blood tests have been done for tickborne diseases and anything else that might show up. There is no doubt Amelia has been severely neglected.
God bless those airport security officers that actually cared because they were the first step of her life being saved
Need a little positive news? Check out Amelia’s update from Tuesday.
Amelia is in Faith’s expert care, and she follows Faith everywhere. She loves to eat; so far she has milk, but no sign of babies so the wait is one.

Updates to follow.
Just knowing she won’t have babies in bushes covered in ticks makes us so happy.
