On Saturday, January 9, the SPCA of Texas received an emergency request from federal law enforcement agencies to help with an active animal cruelty situation in Hopkins County. The plea included help with the rescue of up to 70 dogs living in horrible conditions.

Without missing a step, emergency teams from the SPCA of Texas’ Animal Cruelty Investigations, Animal Care and Veterinary Care departments responded.
Team members began to categorize the intake with medical evaluations, forensic examinations and care plans for dogs with immediate needs. There were 56 dogs rescued.
The dogs have all been transported to the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center where they are receiving needed care and comfort.

This situation required an immediate and coordinated response for a large number of animals, and we are grateful for our experienced and compassionate staff members whose expertise is critical in providing lifesaving care,” said SPCA of Texas Senior VP and Chief Operating Officer MeLissa Webber. “Our adaptable facilities allow the SPCA of Texas to assist law enforcement and partner agencies during large-scale responses and provide critical care to large numbers of animals when it is needed most.
The SPCA of Texas is dedicated to creating a brighter future for animals, people and the community. To learn more about the SPCA of Texas, visit the website at www.spca.org.
