In Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the owner of a small white Maltese faces charges of animal cruelty along with two counts of neglect after he “drop kicked” the dog against a door; and then left the dog in the rain in a motel parking lot.

On the night of March 5, an officer from the Saint Francis Humane Society Police Department arrived at the EconoLodge after receiving a call about a dog having been “punted” against a door and left alone in the pouring rain. An eyewitness told the officer he saw the man drop kick the dog. The dog slammed against the door, and then limped away.

A vehicle going through the parking lot that night had to stop to avoid hitting the dog after it collapsed in the parking lot in the pouring rain.

The owner of the dog was identified as Bijay Poudel, 29, who admitted to the officer he did kick the dog into the door because the pup had been playing in the rain.

Poudel is alleged to have demonstrated to the officer how he kicked the dog.

The dog was seized and taken to an emergency veterinarian for evaluation and treatment. He suffered from the following:

  • Broken blood vessels in the eyes
  • Bloody stool
  • Little to no body fat; 3/9
  • Matted coat and overgrown nails
  • Enflamed skin with dried feces in fur
  • Lack of up-to-date vaccinations
  • Nervous, fearful and shy demeanor
  • The treating veterinarian determined the dog’s anxiety and fear is likely the result of animal cruelty.

Poudel is scheduled to appear in court on April 30.
