Just 24 hours ago, on Monday afternoon, a freezing dog was discovered lying next to a dumpster. A Good Samaritan had been taking out the trash when she spotted the dog and contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

Temperatures had dipped to single digits overnight, and there was little doubt the dog had spent hours hungry and shivering; she had been close to death by the time rescuers brought him to the emergency veterinarian services for the animal welfare organization.

When he arrived at the shelter’s hospital care unit, no body temperature registered on the thermometer. His emaciated body was too cold, although he remained responsive to touch and to voices. He showed signs of dehydration and frostbite.

The immediate task was to warm him up with as many heating sources as possible.
His rescuers named him Creme Brulee, and although his body temperature started to rise later that day, his prognosis was uncertain.
So let’s forward to Tuesday. The excitement at Stray Rescue was palpable:

He made it through the night!
He’s alive!
Creme Brulee wants to thank everyone for your healing powers ! He’s still too weak to stand, and we’re not convinced he’s out of the woods. But this 7 year old guy is home with us now. We’ll get him cleaned up and nice & cozy with a comforter!
And now on Wednesday, Creme Brulee continues to make progress. He slept the whole night and woke up with a lot of life in his eyes. He’s been holding his head up this morning and eating well.

Annnnd…we gave him a toy and he started playing! We took a video for you!! To think he only had a few hours left in him, and now look at him. One day at a time, little man!
