Tootie’s red sweater brings giggles to passersby yet she still waits at the shelter for her turn

It’s a critical time of the year at the Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta, Georgia. The shelter is currently 50 dogs over capacity. And as the holiday week continues, more dogs are expected to enter this week.

Tomorrow, Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., whatever number the shelter is over capacity, will be the number of dogs placed on the urgent list. Sadly, the shelter is preparing for a devastating week.

So let’s introduce you to just one of the precious lives who need everyone’s help – one by one we can save lives.

Meet Tootie; volunteers had thought this gorgeous and friendly Boxer mix had lots of “cheerleaders.” A volunteer met her yesterday:

A dog like Tootie needs all of the cheerleaders she can get. I stopped walking by when I saw a glare of red inside of a kennel in one of the smaller rooms at the shelter. I squinted to read the name on the kennel card of the dog curled up in a bright red sweater and it was Tootie.

.Tootie:

Location: Fulton County Animal Services
Animal ID: 59984000
Species: Dog
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Size: Medium
Weight: 32 pounds
Color: Black / Brindle
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Here Since: December 21, 2025

It may have been one of Tootie’s cheerleaders who put the sweater on her with hopes a visitor would envision her in their home for Christmas. Maybe someone on the team hoped it would keep her warm, or maybe her kennel tech spotted the sweater in a store and bought it for Tootie as a Christmas present?

One volunteer stated Tootie had entered the shelter wearing the sweater.

The sweater, although it brings giggles to passersby as they stroll past her kennel, Tootie doesn’t know. She just wants to be chosen and hopes one of those smiling faces walking by want their next family member to be her. Tootie has watched her kennel neighbors leave – so when will it be her turn? After all, she’s a good girl.

Meanwhile, this adorable, loving pup waits patiently in her red sweater. Would everyone please share her story and help her find that perfect home she deserves?

Can you give Tootie a safe place for her and her sweater to land? She can be fostered or adopted at Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta, GA.
