When Lexi arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA a few days ago, the ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers had just found her abandoned in a wire cage after her owners had been evicted. Rescuers knew there was no time to waste to get Lexi help, and she was rushed to the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Philadelphia headquarters for emergency life-saving treatment.

Lexi was emaciated; she weighed just 18 pounds, and her body temperature was dangerously low. Her eyes were distant and vacant – the staff and the volunteers all had tears in their eyes. Lexi could barely lift her head, and whoever left her in this condition should hold their heads in shame.
But hold on; there was a “flicker of hope.” It came in the form of the expert veterinary care being given to Lexi. Veterinarians wrapped her in warm blankets and began the intensive around the clock care and monitoring she needs. She has been placed on intravenous fluids and has received an albumin transfusion to try a stabilize her frail body.
She continues on 24/7 care, and no one is giving up. The staff posted the following:
Lexi is a fighter. She has not stabilized yet, leaving us hesitant to even share her story, but we don’t want it to go untold…
Yes, Lexi has an uphill struggle, but the hospital staff tell us she has the heart of a fighter. And, best of all Lexi hasn’t given up.
We know this is a heartbreaking story, but we all need to fight for those who have no voice. To help Lexi and the other animals who have been abandoned, betrayed and neglected, please click here to donate.
