More than 100 dogs are now recovering after having been rescued from an alleged puppy mill in Raleigh, North Carolina on Wednesday. Raleigh Animal Control officers responded to a complaint about the horrible living conditions for dozens of dogs.

The SPCA of Wake County, Wake County Animal Services and Raleigh Animal Control arrived at the property to find multiple dogs living in unhealthy conditions. 101 dogs were removed from the home and are all being placed with rescue partners.

The owner of the property also surrendered 21 chickens.
Dogs of all ages were found living in egregious conditions. According to the SPCA of Wake County, dogs, five or six surrounded by their own waste, had been crowded into kennel cages and stacked floor to ceiling surrounded by filth. Mother dogs were found nursing puppies; 15 of these dogs are currently in the care of SPCA Wake’s care. Each dog is being medically assessed and being provided with the needed life saving treatment.

Many of the dogs are toy poodles, Pomeranians, chihuahuas, Yorkshire terriers and small breeds There was also a golden retriever in a cage found in the back of the home next to another large cage holding a crate full of goldendoodle puppies.

The entire rescue situation evolved within an hour of receiving the call for help. All of the rescued dogs are receiving excellent care.
