How hungry had this stray pup must have been to have climbed inside of a trash can in Detroit to scavenge for something – anything to assuage the hunger pains in his stomach?

Independent rescuer Lauren Yellen, who spotted the dog, wants to help the pup who is clearly hungry and injured. According to Lauren, who posted the dog’s photo on social media which has since gone viral, the dog growled at her as she approached, but she didn’t have any treats with her, and no doubt he was clearly frightened and very hungry.

The most heartbreaking part about working/living/playing in Detroit is the number of dogs I come across on a daily basis.
This pup was on the side of I-75 and 7 mile; clearly in the trash can, looking for dinner.
I tried to offer him immediate escape from the streets but he was too scared.
By the time I was back with food and a leash he was off probably looking for somewhere to spend the night.
So far this year, Lauren has helped 13 dogs in the area where she both works and lives. So many of the local rescue organizations are overcrowded, but the need persists, and it is hoped the city can pitch in funds and personnel to make the rescue of these innocent victims of neglect and abandonment available.

Clearly there’s a lot more to go; and I really am interested in finding someone/an organization that can take dogs when I/my friends find them. If you know that person; please let me know!
The dog has an injury to his neck and eye. Unfortunately the city just doesn’t have the resources to be on call all the time, so it’s big-hearted rescuers like Lauren who make a difference one dog at a time.
If you can help, please reach out on Facebook link here. Many thanks to the heroes living among us who are quietly out here helping those who cannot speak. Thank you Lauren.
