A Sumter County, North Carolina man faces several animal cruelty and neglect charges after deputies found several malnourished dogs and one deceased dog behind a vacant home.

Deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office had been dispatched to a vacant property on Saturday to find dogs chained up outside in the heat with no clean water and showing visible signs of neglect. Only one of the dogs had recently been fed; it is not known why the others had been left to languish with no food or water.
Two of the surviving dogs are currently in the care of Forgotten, New Family Rescue.

Never again will you be chained and starved. Never again will you watch your best friend waste away and die in front of you. Your hell is done. Freedom and justice is found . Once Forgotten… now family. Welcome to what you deserved all along.
Herbert Linwood Butler, 43, has been arrested and charged with failure to bury and six counts of neglect.

Many thanks to the Sumter Police Department for helping these dogs find help.
Donations are needed for the emergency care.
