Korra had been part of a family for five years, but one day her life changed – in the blink of an eye. Her owners claimed she had severe allergy issues and had become aggressive to family members; unable to cope with Korra any longer, she was surrendered to the Lancaster Animal Care Center.

When Korra arrived, she was terrified. She arrived in her pajamas and at first sat perfectly still in her kennel, just watching; expecting at any time her family would be returning to take her home.
Evelyn Garcia, a volunteer at the shelter, noticed how scared she was, and how Korra would bark defensively, but Evelyn’s heart broke, knowing how much Korra missed her family and could not comprehend how she had been left alone.

When the staff was able to take off her pajamas, Korra had been undernourished, and it was decided to help her succeed. She needed a foster home; a place where she could decompress and be slowly introduced to other dogs. Korra had been available for adoption, but no one came, and as is the policy of most overcrowded shelters, the five-year-old dog was placed on the humane euthanasia list.
Evelyn wasn’t giving up on Korra and nor were the other volunteers.

“Korra urgently needs to find a way out of here. Time is flying by so fast that she’s already out of time. She only has a couple days left. She was previously rescue only due to being fearful, but she was reassessed and now is available for public adoption. She is very scared and overwhelmed here so she is adults only required. She also went to playgroup and did best with calm dogs. Please give korra a chance. I promise you’ll love her too. She is 5 years old and 59 lbs. A5733075.”

Korra has been a work in progress. Gentle handling, walks in the park and the soothing words of kindness have worked; it wasn’t long before Korra started to look forward to her new friends and eagerly wagged her tail showing sparks of joy again.
Korra is now in a temporary foster and is out of the shelter, but she still needs a long term foster or forever home; please reach out to @lex_diamondsss if you can help in the LA area! Per the shelter’s playgroup assessment, she does better with calm dogs if you have any.

Please share Korra’s story with friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
