Three-year-old deaf dog at California shelter found wearing harness sadly waits for his person to return

Meet Rocky; he’s a three-year-old black and white coated “cow paint” dog at the Carson Animal Shelter in California. Sadly, Rocky, who is deaf, is beginning to shut down. More than two months ago, (75+ days ago) Rocky was picked up by animal control officers as a stray wearing his halter, but his person never came looking for him. How does anyone explain that to Rocky?

No kidding – Rocky is very adoptable, but he continues to be overlooked. Here is the part of his story that we know. Perhaps this information will help this gorgeous, albeit shy guy, find his perfect home.

Via shelter volunteer:

“Rocky (A5619298) was at the front of the kennel with a neutral body, soft eyes, a slightly open pant, natural-set ears, and a neutral tail with a soft wag. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, pulled strongly on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. In the catch pen, his body was neutral, his eyes were soft, his ears were back, his mouth was open, and his tail was neutral with a fast wag. He entered the yard and exchanged appropriate greetings with the other dogs. He roamed the yard with a neutral demeanor for several minutes before he began mounting the other dogs. He responded well to corrections from the dogs and the handlers, but would return after a few minutes and begin mounting the dogs again. He followed the dogs around the yard, joining in on play but only to mount the dogs. The handler was able to continue steering him away from the dogs, but he remained determined to mount them. As the yard was thinned out at the end of playgroup, Rocky began to roam the yard with a relaxed body, soft eyes, a heavy pant, ears back, and a neutral tail. He allowed the handler to pet him, but did not solicit petting. Rocky is tolerant of the other dogs, has a medium energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.”

Rocky has not been neutered, and of course, that likely accounts for his “mounting” behavior. He is approved for public adoption, has a medium energy level and does the best with women.

Rocky is now red listed, which means he can be euthanized at any time. Please share his story, his photos and his video. He’s a great dog; he just hasn’t received the attention he deserves. Sharing saves lives.
