Lydia #A539713 is the only dog on the Last Chance Animal List this week at Orange County Animal Services in Orlando, Florida. She must receive a rescue hold by Wednesday morning, February 7 or she will be euthanized. Lydia was found dragging her tattered collar and leash near International Drive in South Orlando, almost a month ago. Her family never came for her, and she is so sad and in desperate need of foster or rescue.

The ideal foster situation will be to keep Lydia separated from other pets. She needs immediate veterinary care for her ears. (Read below) She has not been spayed. She is heartworm negative.

According to shelter notes, the finder stated the dog was so scared, and sadly while trying to leash her Lydia bit the woman, resulting “in minor injury that was not initially noticed”.

I found her while I was in Orlando on International and 535. I was able to get her into a fenced area at sunshine elementary school. I had no choice, but to corner her in the fence because of the highway nearby she kept running into the road. Someone dumped her and just left her with a tattered leash tied to something she must’ve escaped .She was scared! She needs to go home! She needs to decompress. She was extremely stressed and exhausted when I found her. Her bite was superficial after literally being cornered behind bushes against a fence. She scream and cried as being leashed in total fear. Please someone save her. I can’t I have 3 dogs and 5 cats. She needs a chance”.

The shelter has noted Lydia was easy to handle and did seek social interaction upon intake. It is possible Lydia could be deaf; the clinic diagnosed her with severe ear infections “with ear canals stenotic bilaterally leaving no room for examination via otoscope.” Her ear infections are likely very painful for her and could very well be affecting her relationships with other dogs. Lydia needs a comprehensive physical examination by a veterinarian. At this time, she is also being treated for an upper respiratory infection so commonly affecting shelter dogs.

During Lydia’s first outing to the yard she was easily leashed, allowing handling and although a bit jumpy/mouthy she responded well to correction. She initiated play with a spayed female but that dog was nervous and snapped at her so the interaction ended.

Next Lydia was successfully paired with an avoidant spayed female and this pairing lasted three days and then a kennel fight occurred. A more recent attempt to pair Lydia in the kennel was unsuccessful; she was stiff and did not relax until the other dog was removed. Once alone, Lydia relaxed.
