At the Grand Stand Humane Society in Horry County, South Carolina, Roxy still waits for the coveted opportunity to have her very own home. She loves the volunteers, loves car rides and loves people, but it takes her awhile to warm up to visitors, and she just doesn’t seem to like other animals. That makes her situation a bit more complicated, but the love Roxy has to offer, surely works to her advantage.

Roxy came to the shelter as a stray, and no one ever arrived at the shelter to claim her. Sadly, she wore no collar and had no microchip to help find her owner.

Roxy, who is estimated to be four-years-old, would do best as an only pet and in a home with no small children. Here is how the rescue organization described Roxy, and after all this time at the rescue, this sweetheart is becoming very discouraged.

“It’s a miracle that Roxy has kept her spirits high for as long as she has. Sadly, that is starting to change. We’ve noticed a change in our favorite girl. She’s becoming depressed, withdrawn and uninterested in things she usually loves. Yes, we love her just as much as we love our own at home. Yes, we shower her with affection and special treats. Yes, we try to take those few extra minutes with her every day. But this is not enough. No animal should ever spend this long in a shelter. It’s simply unfair. She deserves better. She deserves more than we can give.”

The following video was taken last year when Roxy had to be returned to the rescue because her foster family had to move. We can see how absolutely loving she is in the right home.

The Grand Strand Humane Society never gives up on the animals in their care. Four years is a long time for a doggo to live in a shelter.

Please share Roxy or apply to adopt her today. She’s the best girl and would make a wonderful addition to your family.
