In Van Nuys, California, the East Valley Animal Shelter had been caring for a young dog picked up at a Walmart parking lot on Monday afternoon. The dog’s facial deformity quickly garnered significant attention, and rescuers shared the young pup’s photo hoping to find his owner.

No one knows what happened to this three-year-old dog’s face. Perhaps he suffered from an accident earlier in life and has been able to adapt to his deformity, or maybe he was born that way.

On Thursday afternoon, a rescuer posted on social media that Boo left with a rescue organization and has been taken to a private veterinarian. He likely will not return to the shelter.

Boo had been one of seven dogs brought into the East Valley Shelter in Van Nuys that day, which brings the number of dogs in need of homes at an all time high. A majority of the posts were about Boo with numerous offers to foster and/or adopt. Boo isn’t the first dog nor will he be the last dog found in the shelters all across the nation with an irresponsible owner, but the other dogs don’t have anyone offering to help them.

By the number of offers hoping to give Boo a new home with lots of love and care, couldn’t you just share that concern and love for another dog just as much in need?

Please don’t shop for your next best friend when you can adopt.
