Her name is Pipsqueak, and this eight-week-old, four-pound Chihuahua arrived at the shelter in Hillsborough County Animal Services, Florida as a stray. It has been reported the puppy had been struck by a lawnmower.

According to Rescue Me Tampa – Shelter Dogs, Pipsqueak has a “2-3 cm round pink fleshy tissue protruding from umbilicus.” In addition, because of her age, the following recommendation from the shelter has been posted:

Due to puppy’s age, suspect remnant from birth (umbilical cord, placenta, etc) vs small umbilical hernia. Tissue cleaned with CHX solution.

The area should be kept clean until she is ready to be spayed and at that time performing any investigative or repair. The puppy has been reported eating wet dog food.

Pipsqueak is too young to be in a shelter; she is at risk of disease transmission in the shelter environment. The shelter is reaching out to approved rescue organizations to help.

The puppy’s deadline is today as soon as possible. Please share this innocent little one with social media contacts; she is again listed as “rescue only.”
