In Greenville, South Carolina, a one-month-old puppy arrived at the Greenville Humane Society with his mouth banded shut. It had been a rubber band that was left on the puppy’s mouth to keep his broken jaw in place.
It is not known how long the puppy’s jaw had been tied shut, but the indentation and swelling indicated he had been in excruciating pain. And just imagine – just a puppy little more than four weeks of age. He suffered from a broken jaw which was being held together by a rubber band.
The puppy, dubbed Finnegan, by his rescuers arrived at the shelter with his four other siblings. He is being transferred to Upstate Vet for further evaluation of his jaw and to develop a recovery plan. Even with his injuries, he is eating and drinking well and still enjoys barking at our staff for cuddles. He is scheduled for x-rays and possible surgery to repair his jaw.
Finnegan arrived with the rest of his litter, but a few of the “fearless fighters” developed significant health issues and have sadly passed away. Hearts are broken for Fiona, Felix and Finley; they were all so tiny, but malnourished, lacked emergency medical care and were riddled with parasites.
And now there are Finnegan and his sister Fergie to meet life’s challenges, and they are both being provided with around the clock medical care. Fortunately, these two were the chunkiest of the puppy litter and remain quite spunky.
