At the Woodford Humane Society in Central Kentucky, Donatello has sadly celebrated his fourth year at the shelter without a home. The five-and-a-half-year-old pooch, who weighs 62 pounds, is now the official longest resident at the shelter, surpassing a dog named Mercedes who had been there just 24 days less.

Donatello has watched 1,189 other dogs and puppies walk past him with their new parents, and has been seen by over 14,000 people, yet the shelter has not received a single call to meet this sweetheart.

According to the shelter, he checks a lot of the boxes which make pets so often overlooked. First of all, he’s a black dog, he’s big, he’s an adult, and he’s a pit bull type; you know the dogs with the square heads, perky ears and mostly great dispositions!

We think it’s time people really got acquainted with this boy. He’s perfectly house and crate trained. He’s loves belly rubs and can relax on the couch watching Netflix with the best of fans. True, he has the zoomies for about five minutes, and although he can be a “wrecking ball” running around, he quickly quiets down.

He’s endlessly patient with being dressed up for photo shoots. He’s pretty sure he’s a lap dog, scoot over on the couch so he can show you.

Donatello does have one special request, and that is to be the only dog in the home. The staff and volunteers at the rescue admit that he is a king, he knows it and he wants to be someone’s one and only.

Please look past the stereotypes of his breed, check out how shiny that glossy black coat reflects in the sun and give a grown up dog a chance to win your heart. Isn’t it Donatello’s turn to mark “ADOPTED” on the top of his page?
