Just in case you think you’ve heard everything that can be done to innocent pets without a second thought, this 10-month-old Rottweiler puppy was surrendered to a nearby shelter because he was struck by a vehicle and broke his back leg. Yes, indeed, a pure bred, gorgeous puppy left at a local shelter where he would be added to the euthanasia list that same evening because of insufficient funds for his medical needs.

It was barely 24 hours ago when Rescue Dogs Rock NYC received the plea to help this puppy. The puppy’s advocate posted on social media:

10 month old Rottie puppy was just hit by a car and his hind leg is fractured and to make matters worse his owners dumped him into the shelter .

He has until tonight to make it out alive .

You can see how swollen his hip is , 4 times the normal size .

It’s very important to know that Rescue Dogs Rock NYC don’t want to say no to an emergency, and this puppy named Pumba was desperate. He would be needing expensive orthopedic surgery, but the non-profit organization has at least four other dogs needing similar type surgeries estimated to cost thousands of dollars. Nevertheless, the puppy would be helped, and it is hoped animal advocates will come to the aid of Pumba and the other deserving dogs.

At the emergency veterinarian hospital, x-rays showed the puppy had sustained a severe femur fracture; the bone was shattered and his only chance to save his leg was to transport him to New York City for emergency surgery by the organization’s board certified orthopedic surgeon.

Pumba is on his way.
