It had been a heartbreaking photo of a stray pup in Brownsville, located on the western Gulf Coast in South Texas, adjacent to the Mexico border, whose story went viral. Thousands responded to the photo and wanted to know how they could help.
The dog’s description followed:
NO EYES. NO TEETH. HOW IS HE ALIVE? A SKELETAL BOY IS WALKING BLINDLY THROUGH STREETS IN SEARCH OF FOOD THAT HE CAN’T EVEN EAT. THIS BOY IS LIVING IN A DARK HELL AND ONE THAT HE CAN’T EVEN MANEUVER THROUGH VISIBLY. HE URGENTLY NEEDS RESCUE AND FOSTER! HE IS NOT GOING TO SURVIVE LIKE THIS!

Road to Home Rescue Support stepped up, a foster home was procured, and the dog dubbed Noah was rushed to Vergi 24 Hour Animal Hospital in Houston in critical condition. It was horrifying to imagine what he had been through. Tragically, this had been one of the worst cases of neglect and abuse the rescuers had ever seen. Noah had been left for dead and suffered unimaginable pain.
At the veterinarian hospital, Noah was immediately administered a blood transfusion, antibiotics, fluids and pain medication. With that, he seemed to have been improving, providing his rescuers with hope. Of course, he would need surgery to repair the severe trauma to his face, jaw, ocular cavity and nose, but that was to be expected and when strong enough Noah would be provided with everything he would need to help.
No matter how our hearts always hope for the best and perhaps a miracle of two, sometimes difficult decisions have to be made. After conferring with Noah’s veterinarians who confronted a multitude of complications with his case, and in spite of doing everything humanely possible, it was too late.
it was determined after consulting with an oral surgeon, that Noah was a survivor of distemper and had what is most likely Old Dog distemper disease. he lived on the streets without any care, scrounging for food and developed Myoclonus.

The advanced disease had been causing the twitching in Noah’s face and had caused the deterioration of his facial structure. Tragically there was no way for him to survive; the damage was irreversible, and his body was too weak to fight. Even if he had survived, he would have suffered through a lifetime of pain.
with broken hearts, we share the news of Noah’s passing. Noah was just too sick and we had to make the decision to let him go. This was a truly heartwrenching decision for all of us, and one that we were so desperately trying to avoid.

Noah deserved so much more than what fate dealt him. He is is now pain-free and knew unconditional love in his final days. Rest easy sweet angel. You were loved and will live on in our hearts.
