The heartbreaking photo of a stray pup in Brownsville, located on the western Gulf Coast in South Texas, adjacent to the Mexico border, went viral. Thousands responded to the photo and wanted to know how they could help.

The dog’s description followed:

NO EYES. NO TEETH. HOW IS HE ALIVE? A SKELETAL BOY IS WALKING BLINDLY THROUGH STREETS IN SEARCH OF FOOD THAT HE CAN’T EVEN EAT. THIS BOY IS LIVING IN A DARK HELL AND ONE THAT HE CAN’T EVEN MANEUVER THROUGH VISIBLY. HE URGENTLY NEEDS RESCUE AND FOSTER! HE IS NOT GOING TO SURVIVE LIKE THIS!

Road to Home Rescue Support stepped up. Although the non profit rescue organization was not in a position to take in anymore dogs, they could not turn away. A foster home was procured, and the dog dubbed Noah was rushed to Vergi 24 Hour Animal Hospital in Houston in critical condition. It was horrifying to imagine what he had been through.

After his examination, Noah’s veterinary thought the dog was having seizures, but it appears that he’s had some severe trauma. He was barely able to stand; suffering from dehydration and starvation. His eye sockets are sunken in, and he has ocular discharge. They are administering pain medication and and have been running full body X-rays and bloodwork.

Sunday’s update on Noah indicates he is getting stronger, but had he not received medical treatment when he did, he would not have survived. After a blood transfusion, his platelet count increased, and although he has a long road to recovery ahead, he is now able to sit up on his own.

It appears that he has experienced severe trauma to his face most likely from being struck by something – possibly hit by a car…. His jaw, nasal cavity and ocular cavity were badly damaged. In his mouth is exposed bone and necrotic tissue. Most of his teeth were knocked out and the others that remain have been shifted (as seen in picture) and he will need surgery to repair

Noah will remain hospitalized for the next few days where the goal is to manage his pain, keep him hydrated and get him stabilized before determining his surgical needs. Sadly, this is one of the worst cases, but his rescuers are making sure Noah gets all the help he needs.

Noah’s medical bills have been very expensive and continue to increase. Please help:
