It had been a desperate plea on Friday from a rescue volunteer begging help for a stray dog left languishing in pain and loneliness in front of a school in Texas to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Kira had been scavenging for food outside of the school for weeks when she collapsed as a result of hunger, dehydration and pain.
SHE [KIRA] HAS BEEN OUTSIDE A SCHOOL FOR DAYS AND THEY HAVE PROHIBITED FEEDING HER. LAST NIGHT IT RAINED ALL MORNING AND SHE WAS UNDER WATER FOR HOURS. IT SEEMS LIKE SHE CAN’T LOOK OUT OF ONE EYE, AND SHE IS VERY WEAK.

Without hesitation and in spite of the ongoing medical expenses for so many other dogs, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC did not hesitate to step forward. Shortly thereafter, Kira was on her way to the emergency veterinarian hospital where life-saving medical treatment began.
Fortunately, Kira has been one dog who has been able to “catch a break” and receiving the best of care. She spent the weekend on intravenous fluids and antibiotics, and she has been able to stand on her own – albeit quite briefly.
After X-rays and a thorough medical examination, Kira suffers from:
“Kira. Healed right tibia fracture.
Right shoulder pain….nothing broken on xrays of shoulder.
Anaplasma and ehrlichia pos.
Uveitis bc of trauma. Time and eye drops for her eye . She is 45 lbs and 1.5 yrs old.”

To everyone’s delight, Kira is still wagging her tail. We don’t deserve dogs.
