Heartbreaking: Nursing mom with newborns in kill shelter making us cry

The thought of a one-year-old nursing mother dog with her newborn pups in a kill shelter in the Los Angeles, California area has been making everyone cry. The dog, dubbed Taylor, weighs only 27-pounds, and volunteers and the staff at Chesterfield South L.A. Animal Care tell us this young mom is one of the sweetest dogs they have ever met.

I can’t even hazard a guess at the breed, she is so small, but it doesn’t really matter. What matters to me is that she is nursing seven 2-week-old puppies at Chesterfield South L.A. deadly shelter in Los Angeles.

Taylor and her puppies arrived at the shelter on May 30, 2023 as strays. She is so friendly the shelter staff believe she had been someone’s un-spayed pet, and when she gave birth to a large litter, they dumped her.

It is dangerous and truly heartbreaking to have two-week-old puppies in a shelter knowing these little ones are vulnerable to viruses and infections always circulating at an overcrowded shelter.

Truly these are the most vulnerable of beings but Taylor looks so proud of herself. She is smiling in the photo.

Please advocate for Taylor and her seven puppies who have not even been named. They are currently on Blue Alert, which means they are in desperate need of a local foster or home.
