A dog named Mellow took his last walk around his Pennsylvania neighborhood of Dupont, and all of Mellow’s friends showed up in mass.

According to Mellow’s owner, Kevin Curry, his seven-year-old dog had recently been diagnosed with lymphoma; his best friend would be passing away in June. And as a special tribute to Mellow, Curry sent a letter that went into neighbors’ mailboxes that his dog would be taking his final walk.

You see, Curry had walked his dog twice a day through “rain, snow or shine,” and he and the dog were oh so familiar sights in the area. This would be a way for the neighbors to say their own special goodbyes.

i will be marching around the neighborhood on Saturday, June 3 from 7-8PM and would love to say goodbye to your face-to-face is you are available.

Come out to pat me on the head or rub my belly and i will be forever grateful. (i love people after all)”

Kevin Curry’s letter

And if you’ve ever wondered why people adopt rescue dogs, Curry admits how much better Mellow had enriched his life. Need we mention that so often we just don’t deserve dogs?

The celebration of life was more than either Mellow or Curry could have expected. Groups of people stationed themselves at every corner, and everyone made a big deal of it as the two walked among the crowds – Mellow receiving pats and hugs, but carefully so not to overwhelm the pup.
