Earlier this month, Mr. G reached out to the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services, about his three-year-old German shepherd. Mr. G’s health had been quickly deteriorating, making him unable to care for his beloved Rudi any longer. Having no one to turn to, he asked the team at the shelter to help find the best family for Rudi before he left for the hospital to receive life-saving surgery.

With tears in his eyes. Rudi’s owner had to make the tough decision to part from a member of his family. In order to help, the compassionate staff gathered as much information about the dog as possible.

There will be a void in my heart that will never be filled again. …My deteriorating health will prevent me from giving her the life she rightfully deserve.

Mr. G

Rudi is just over three-years of age and takes a few minutes to warm up to new people. She loves to hike; taking long walks and staying active. When Mr. G and Rudi were together the last two years, they were extremely active.

We would go everywhere, from parks to rivers and lakes around the area. She’s accustomed to a minimum of 2 hours of active interaction daily and is willing to even walk on a treadmill to get her steps in.

Mr. G

And that’s not all. Rudi has been trained to use German cues for basic behavior including carrying the mail and putting her toys back into their bin.

Right now, Rudi is hanging out in one of the administrative offices and is understandably upset about her new situation. Sadly, if she doesn’t find someone to help her, she is at risk of being euthanized.

Please share Rudi’s story with friends, family and social media contacts. If you are able to provide her with the mental and physical stimulation she needs, please consider visiting her, Please click here or call
