Stray Rescue of St. Louis has a new member of their rescue family. Although her story is difficult to read, please continue because it’s about a sweet, five-year-old dog who has been through hell. She had been a bait dog and arrived at the rescue with her teeth filed down, her canine teeth extracted and deep wounds and bites all over her body.

If you are not familiar with the term “bait dog,” basically it is a dog that cannot fight back or defend itself. There are no hardened rules that list what makes a dog a good candidate. Trainers often tape their mouths shut, remove their teeth or tie them to a pole where they cannot defend themselves. In addition, trainers often starve them and keep them confined all day long in a crate. These dogs feel the same kinds of physical and emotional trauma as human victims of abuse. And all of this is done to train fighting dogs to fight.

And here we have a true victim. She is scared and the shelter life is a nightmare for her. She is currently listed as stable and on the mend, but her body, heart and soul need to be in a home where she can feel the goodness of humans. Her rescuers say she likes being around people and will thrive with a slow, easy going pace.

Hearing dogs barking next to her is just about the scariest thing this baby could possibly endure. She shakes and can’t even relax.

An hour or two out in the sun seems to revitalize this dog, and it is then she shows everyone a glimpse of her beautiful personality. Sadly, when it’s time to come in, she cowers and doesn’t want to return to her shelter spot. It just breaks hearts watching her.

Please share her plight. She needs an angel to help her learn about life, good people, soft beds, treats, car rides and most importantly – she is safe. Just having someone assuring her that life will be wonderful from now on will make the difference for this gal.

We need to get her out of our shelter as soon as possible. She loves people and needs a home where there are no other pets so she can feel safe. She can only have very short, slow walks as her legs heal. And that’s all she wants anyway. She wants to be safe inside, with you. Her name is Power Puff. Help us find that quiet, safe place for Power Puff. Please share!
