In Rio de Janeiro, a once skinny, abandoned and injured pooch has turned into an internet sensation and one of Brazil’s most loved furry pets. His name is “Corporal Oliveira,” and he was found in 2019 by Officer Cristiana Oliveira.

It seems that one morning, now four-year-old Corporal Oliveira showed up at Rio’s Governador Island and needed help. And it was Officer Oliveira who gave the dog food and water, and in no time at all, the grateful dog started to follow the officer around. When the officer dressed up the dog as a police officer – more of a joke than anything else – the short haired pooch garnered lots of attention.

Since then Officer Oliveira has relocated to another precinct, however the dog never left. The dog is the official mascot of the Rio de Janeiro Military Police’s 17th battalion and accompanies his officer – sometimes even on a motorbike. He is often seen wearing a police coat, shirt and a toy gun at his side. It didn’t take long before the photos began to go viral.

Now Corporal Oliveira has his own Instagram account with more than 120,000 followers.

Check it out; the pooch’s popularity is sure to make you smile. And he’s a rescue pup! Don’t you just wish all stray dogs could be this lucky?
