A woman was found living in the hedges in a “makeshift home” by a tree surgeon in Chester in Cheshire, England because she didn’t want to be separated from her beloved cat she described as her “soulmate.”

In the heartbreaking story told by Gareth Olsen, the tree surgeon who had been clearing a field, he found the woman who told him she could not find any rental accommodations that she could bring her cat. Instead the woman ended up living outdoors underneath the hedges for nearly three years. According to CheshireLive.com, the woman in her 50s had been living under a tarp, umbrellas and a sleeping bag along with her other possessions in boxes and bags.

Olsen had been clearing a section of land for the owner with his tractor when he spotted a small hand waving out of the bushes and yelling, “I live here.”

Olsen’s heart sank for the woman, and he quickly decided to help. First he gave her some money to purchase food and called a friend who helps homeless folks. The woman had offered just to leave the site and said she would clean up any debris she had gathered before she left, but Olsen wanted more for the woman.

I asked her if she had had any accommodation and she said she had done over the years but she has had a cat for a few years who she described as her ‘soulmate and lots of places wouldn’t take her cat. I’m glad that it all came good in the end and she is now getting support.

Thank goodness for kind people like Olsen. The woman needed help, but was afraid to ask. We wish her and her cat the best.
