A dog who escaped from her crate after arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport from a shelter in Puerto Rico has been found. Sukie, a Labrador retriever mix, had been on a flight from San Juan when she arrived on September 15 at Newark. As an airline employee removed the dog’s crate from the aircraft, Sukie escaped.

Suki had been rescued in Puerto Rico by Michael Compton who had spotted the puppy being tossed away in the trash in a box. Unfortunately, he had to surrender the dog a few months later when his wife became seriously ill.

According to the rescue organization, Amigos de los Animales Puerto Rico, the six-year-old dog was found on Monday morning. Although she is emaciated, the dog is still happily wagging her tail and seems to be in good spirits.

For the volunteers who helped post flyers, give out food etc

A special thank you to Magadalena Lugo, Jennifer Tasch, Jennifer Johnson, Kate/Daylin and Jim the tracker for helping Sukie.

Sukie is receiving medical attention and will be with her foster Mom until she is ready for adoption!!!

On Oct. 8, police officers who had seen the lost posters, spotted Sukie in Newark. The officers sent pictures of a fence that had a hole where Sukie was running back and forth, across the street and towards the railroad tracks. Professional pet tracker, Jim Tierney placed a camera in the area, and through lots of sleepless nights, humane traps and delicious treats, Suki was finally safe.

Check out her short video when captured. Ready to go home Suki?
