When we all need a few breaths of fresh air and have a moment or two to reflect humanity at its best, it’s no surprise to find kindness and compassion nearby. Sometimes we just have to look and believe. And sometimes our hearts our hearts are filled with hope.

Check this out.

Late last week, Sgt. Miguel Hernandez and Animal Care Technician Damien Cruz from Riverside County Animal Services spotted a dog on the desert sand who was too frightened to get anywhere near the officers. Too many busy highways close by to chase the dog – the fear that he could be struck by a car trying to elude capture, just wasn’t an option.

Sometimes you have to sit down on the desert sand and wait for the dog to trust you.

And so the officers waited.

And waited.

And still waited. It took awhile, but the sweet pooch walked up to Sgt. Hernandez as well as one more dog; both dogs ultimately rescued.

The one dog was microchipped, however the information provided led to a dead end. Please update information on your dog’s microchip. Maybe this pup’s family is looking for him, and it would have helped to bring the family back together had the information been up-to-date.

Meanwhile this sweet dog is at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms.

Our entire staff at CVAC is amazing but watching this moment unfold was beautiful. We all love these doggos so much. Getting hit by a car is a horrible way to go. Thank you for your love, compassion, and patience.

  1. FINALLY! All cities/counties ought to review THIS as the ONLY way to do a very difficult job. THIS IS ALL YOUR COMMUNITY ASKS OF YOU AS YOU’RE BEING PAID BY THESE GOOD PEOPLE. Bless Sgt. Hernandez 5000 fold for his top notch approach to a very common issue today. We’d be a much more powerful nation IF ALL law enforcement took this attitude and exemplify it in ALL their official duties.
